There’s a lot to love about Loveland. The city sits in Colorado’s foothills, shadowed by the Rocky Mountains to the west, the city of Fort Collins to the north, and Denver to the south. Loveland offers outdoor enthusiasts an abundance of natural areas, parks, miles of trails for hiking and biking, and several expansive lakes.
The quirky Mushroom Rock State Park is just over 200 miles to the west of My Place Hotel-Overland Park, KS.
One of the eight Wonders of Kansas Geography, Mushroom Rock is the smallest, but one of the most unique, state parks in Kansas. The park is only 5 acres but boasts some of the most unusual rock formations anywhere. The rocks served as meeting places and landmarks for Native Americans and early pioneers such as John C. Fremont and Kit Carson.
On the way to My Place Hotel-Overland Park, KS, be sure to stop at the Cross Timbers State Park.
This region was a favored hunting and camping ground of Native Americans of the Osage Nation. The forested flood plains, surrounded by terraces of prairie and hills of oak savanna, provide visitors an opportunity to immerse themselves in some of the most diverse flora and fauna in Kansas.

Overland Park, just outside of Kansas City, is a mecca for outdoor activities The Overland Park Arboretum and Botanical Gardens offer feature five miles of hiking trails, ranging from leisurely strolls to challenging hikes. Another great option is the Indian Creek Hike and Bike Trail which starts in Kansas City and meanders for more than 25 miles. (It even runs through the center of Overland Park!)
46 miles to the north of My Place Hotel-Independence, MO is Weston Bend State Park.
Not far from the hustle and bustle of Kansas City, Weston Bend State Park offers secluded picnic sites and sweeping views of the Missouri River from trails and a scenic overlook accessible to persons with disabilities. A three-mile Paved Bicycle Trail takes hikers and bikers through the park’s woody terrain.

Wilson’s Creek was the first major Civil War battle fought west of the Mississippi River, and the site of the death of Nathaniel Lyon, the first Union general killed in action. The costly Southern victory on August 10, 1861, focused national attention on the war in Missouri. Wilson’s Creek NB commemorates and interprets the battle within the context of the war in the Trans-Mississippi West.
